Red Adair’s famous quote, “If you think hiring a professional is expensive, wait until you hire an amateur,” remains more relevant than ever in today’s business environment.

Basing decisions predominantly on costs can be tempting, but the truth is, as Red so famously put it, it can end up costing you a lot more in the long run.

There have been numerous occasions on which we have been asked to help a client because the original course of action has not delivered the outcomes they expected. Whilst not every situation was due to trying to save money, most were!

Typically, this is when all the client sees is cost rather than benefit. They don’t stop to think about the costs of NOT doing something correctly, the loss to their reputation both personally and as a company,

This type of penny-pinching and short sighted approach starts to spread throughout the organisation, lowering morale, pride in the company, and ultimately resulting in a higher turnover of staff.

How much does doing nothing, or doing it on the cheap really cost?

So the next time you are considering external expertise and assistance, ask yourself a simple question, are you acting based on the outcomes you want or are you being penny-wise and pound-foolish?
